Abstract

When art turns to burnout, culture and arts students are waving their smoke signal. Every beautiful performance the students in the field of creatives are experiencing burnout because of their multiple activities, such as dance, music, drama and art. Burnout is characterized by three factors: exhaustion, cynicism and reduced efficacy. Academic performance, stress and mental health are the most explored topics, whereas academic burnout is limited, especially in the field of creatives. Most of these studies focus on medicine, and there is a noticeable gap. This study explored the level of academic burnout of culture and arts students using explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. There are 90 respondents in quantitative and were selected through random sampling. While in qualitative, 9 respondents were selected to be interviewed. Moreover, the themes from the qualitative results support the findings from the quantitative phase. It shows that the level of academic burnout among the respondents are evident and reveal what affects to several aspects. Combining both methods, the study provides a clearer understanding of what contributes to the level of academic burnout in the field of creatives.
